Belize Trip Cost: One-Week Budget and Real Prices

How much does a one-week trip to Belize cost? The answer depends on where you stay, how you travel between destinations, what activities you choose and how much you spend on meals.

A week based in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye will usually have a different budget from a week in San Ignacio. Island accommodation, boat transfers and marine excursions can add significantly to the total, while mainland travel may involve different accommodation and transport costs.

To make the estimates more useful, this guide uses publicly available 2027 hotel-price indicators and published prices for meals, tours and transportation. It also provides a worked example for two adults spending seven nights in San Pedro.

Price research checked: 2 November 2026. Hotel figures are forward-looking 2027 market averages. Most transport, meal and tour prices are published or reported rates checked during 2026, not guaranteed 2027 prices. Confirm every rate before booking.

Quick answer: what should two adults budget for one week?

For a seven-night stay in San Pedro, an illustrative budget based on the public prices below comes to approximately:

    Illustrative total for two adults

    US$2,919.96

    Approximately BZ$5,839.92 using the BZ$2 = US$1 exchange rate.

    Per person                                                                                                             US$1,459.98

Per person per day                                                                                         About US$208.57

Planning example, not a national average or a completed original survey. International flights, insurance, tips and several optional expenses are excluded.

This example assumes one shared room, average January 2027 San Pedro hotel pricing, meals based on reported traveler spending, a return water-taxi journey, airport transfers, one full-day Hol Chan excursion and two days of golf-cart rental.

2027 accommodation prices: San Pedro versus San Ignacio

Accommodation is one of the biggest variables in a Belize holiday budget. Island resorts, town hotels, guesthouses and jungle lodges serve different types of travelers, so comparing only the lowest advertised rate can be misleading.

The following figures are Trivago’s published monthly average hotel-price indicators for 2027. They are market averages, not guaranteed prices for a particular property or travel date.

    US$119/night

    US$125/night

    US$114/night

    US$114/night

    US$106/night

The San Pedro January figure has a displayed range of approximately US$90 – US$379 per night, while San Ignacio’s January figure has a range of approximately US$47 – US$216. Actual prices depend on the property, dates, occupancy and availability.

These figures illustrate why the destination matters. A traveler spending most of the week in San Pedro may need a larger accommodation budget than someone staying in San Ignacio, although the actual difference depends on the properties selected.

    Before booking, check:

    • Whether the quoted rate is for one room or one person.
    • Whether the room accommodates two adults.
    • Whether hotel tax and service charges are included.
    • Whether breakfast is included.
    • Whether the property charges separately for transfers or other services.
    • Whether the cancellation policy allows changes if travel plans are disrupted.

A low headline price is not always the lowest final cost.

Food costs: what should you allow per day?

Food spending depends on whether you eat at local cafés, casual restaurants, hotel restaurants or higher-end dining venues.

BudgetYourTrip’s traveler-reported data gives the following daily food averages:

    Destination

Average reported food spending per person per day

    Reported range

    San Pedro

    US$69

    US$30-US$130

    San Ignacio

    US$36

    US$15-US$80

The same source lists typical San Pedro meal ranges of approximately US$7 – US$21for breakfast, US$10 – US$28 for lunch and US21–US48 for dinner. San Ignacio’s reported ranges are lower: US$4 – US$11 for breakfast, US$5 – US$14 for lunch and US$11- US$25 for dinner. These are traveler-reported spending indicators, not fixed restaurant menu prices. (Budget Your Trip)

For two adults spending seven days in San Pedro, using the reported average of US$69 per person per day produces a meal allowance of: 2 X 7 X $69 = $966

This is a useful planning reference, but it is not a requirement. Travelers who eat breakfast at their accommodation, choose local lunch options and limit expensive dinners may spend less. Those who prefer resort dining, seafood restaurants and drinks may spend more.

Tours and activities: the cost of experiences

Activities can make a substantial difference to the total cost of a Belize holiday. A snorkeling trip, cave excursion, Maya-site visit or private boat tour may have a different price depending on the operator and inclusions.

The following public price examples were available during research:

    Activity

    Published price reference

    What to check

Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley full-day sail from San Pedro

    Around US$150 per person

The cited listing includes park fees, snorkeling gear, drinks and snacks.

    Hol Chan half-day snorkeling

Around US$80 per person as an indicative average

The cited comparison of operators reports a range of approximately US60–US110, including the marine park fee.

    ATM Cave guided day tour

    Around US$145 per person

The cited operator price includes lunch and park entrance; taxes and gratuity may be additional.

    Cave tubing at Nohoch Che’en

Around US$105 per person in a published price comparison

Do not budget for this until NICH confirms that water tours have reopened.

These are public price references, not guaranteed 2027 quotations. In particular, the latest public notice I found on Nohoch Che’en reported that water-based tours remained suspended on 23 October 2026 because of elevated river conditions. Confirm the site’s current operating status before including cave tubing in a booked itinerary.

When comparing tours, check whether the price includes transport, equipment, park entry, meals, drinking water and taxes. Two tours with different inclusions should not be treated as directly comparable.

Getting around: ferry, airport transfer and golf cart costs

Transportation costs depend on your arrival point and the route you choose.

    • For travelers heading to San Pedro, the water taxi is one option. San Pedro Belize Express lists an approximate journey time of 90 minutes between Belize City and San Pedro. Its published FAQ also gives shared transportation from Philip Goldson International Airport to its water-taxi terminal at US$25 for the first person and US$10 for each additional person, one way.
    • A separate public price check of the operator’s booking process recorded an all-in one-way adult fare of approximately US$39.24 from Belize City to San Pedro, including the fees shown at checkout. This is a dated price reference and should be checked again when booking.
    • For local travel on Ambergris Caye, the four-seat golf-cart rental rate varies from US$50 to US$90 for 24 hours. Fuel was extra.

Remember to budget for transport between the ferry terminal and your accommodation, additional taxi journeys, fuel and any extra golf cart-rental days. These costs are not included automatically in a ferry or rental quote.

A worked seven-night budget for two adults in San Pedro

The following example combines the published price references into one practical planning scenario. It assumes two adults sharing one room and spending the full seven nights in San Pedro.

    US$2,919.96

At the Central Bank of Belize’s fixed buying rate of BZ$2.00 for US$1.00, the calculated equivalent is approximately BZ$5,839.92.

This example is intended to make the arithmetic transparent. It is not a quote for a specific January 2027 hotel booking. The hotel figure is a monthly market average, while meal spending is based on traveler-reported data and the transport and activity amounts are dated published price references.

The estimate also does not include international flights, travel insurance, tips, shopping, extra tours, fuel, additional taxi journeys or any accommodation taxes and fees that may not be included in the displayed hotel price. Check the final checkout amount before treating the total as your actual trip budget.

How a mainland stay changes the budget

A mainland itinerary can have a different cost structure. San Ignacio is a useful base for travelers interested in Maya sites, caves and jungle activities.

The reported traveler-spending data for San Ignacio is lower than San Pedro in several categories. BudgetYourTrip reports average daily food spending of around US$36 per person and a typical double-occupancy hotel-room spend of around US$38 per night in its historical traveler data. Those figures should not be confused with forward-looking 2027 booking prices. (Budget Your Trip)

The 2027 hotel-price indicator from Trivago gives a higher January average of approximately US$114 per night for San Ignacio. This difference illustrates why it is important to distinguish historical traveler spending from current market pricing.

A mainland itinerary may also require road transfers, tour transport or a rental vehicle. Ask whether an excursion includes pickup from your accommodation, park entry, meals and a guide. If you are comparing San Pedro with San Ignacio, include the cost of moving between the two destinations rather than comparing room prices alone.

Extra costs that travelers often overlook

A realistic budget should include more than hotel rooms and headline tour prices. Check the following before confirming your trip:

    • Taxes and service charges: Some displayed accommodation and restaurant prices exclude taxes or service charges.
    • Airport transfers: A ferry ticket does not necessarily include transportation between the airport and the ferry terminal.
    • Local transport: Taxis, golf-cart fuel, additional rental days and hotel transfers can add to the total.
    • Tour inclusions: Equipment, park entry, meals, drinks and transport may be charged separately.
    • Travel insurance: Include cover appropriate for your itinerary and planned activities.
    • Tips and gratuities: Check whether service charges are already included.
    • Weather-related changes: An extra night, replacement transfer or rescheduled activity may increase spending.
    • International flights: Airfare can be a major part of the total, depending on the departure country and travel dates.

How to build your own Belize vacation budget

Use these steps to create a budget that reflects your actual trip rather than relying on a generic national average.

    1. Choose your route first. Decide whether you will stay in San Pedro, visit San Ignacio or combine the island and mainland. Your route determines the transfer costs.
    2. Select travel dates. Compare actual accommodation availability for your dates. Monthly averages are useful for planning but are not a substitute for a live booking quote.
    3. Choose your accommodation standard. Compare similar room types and occupancy. Check taxes, breakfast, service charges and cancellation terms.
    4. List the activities you want to book. Add the actual tour prices and identify what each package includes. Avoid adding an activity to the budget if its operating status has not been confirmed.
    5. Calculate transfers separately. Include the airport, ferry terminal, accommodation and tour pickup points. Check whether the return journey has the same fare.
    6. Add food and daily spending. Use local menu prices and your preferred dining style to estimate meals. Adjust the allowance if breakfast is included in your hotel booking.
    7. Keep a contingency. Use real accommodation and transport quotes to decide how much flexibility you need. Do not assume a fixed percentage will cover every weather or schedule disruption.

Is Belize expensive to visit in 2027?

Belize can be planned around different budgets, but the total depends heavily on accommodation, destination and activities. A week in San Pedro with a resort-style room and several guided excursions will cost more than a simpler stay in a mainland town with fewer paid activities.

The public price references in this guide provide a starting point, not a guarantee of what you will pay. Hotel averages change, tour operators update their rates and transport prices may vary by date or booking method.

The most reliable way to estimate your Belize trip cost is to price your actual dates, route, accommodation and activities separately, then add the costs together. That gives you a more useful budget than relying on one broad daily figure.
